Pikey Peak –Pikey Peak Trekking is an emerging trekking destination located in the lower Everest region of Nepal. This off-the-beaten-path trek offers stunning panoramic views and a unique cultural experience with fewer tourists compared to the classic Everest trails. The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pattale Village (2,840 m) — the hometown of Subas. The route follows the BP Highway, passing through Jayram Ghat and alongside the fast-flowing Sunkoshi River. The drive covers approximately 240 km and takes about 7–9 hours by jeep. The trek officially starts from Pattale Village, which already offers breathtaking panoramic views of several towering Himalayan peaks. From here, trekkers can witness: Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m) – the highest mountain in the world.Mt. Makalu, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Lhotse, Nearby peaks such as Numbur, Thamserku, Gaurishankar, Mera Peak, and many others Pikey Peak I (4,068 m) and Pikey Peak II (4,065 m) – the main highlights of the trek. This trek is especially suitable for those who are unable to trek to higher altitudes but still wish to enjoy majestic views of Mt. Everest and surrounding peaks. As a less-explored and newly developed trekking route, the Pikey Peak Trail sees fewer tourists. While the infrastructure is still developing and there are limited guesthouses, local communities are gradually building more lodges. Alternatively, trekkers can choose to do camping treks, enjoying the sunrise, sunset, and mountain views directly from their tents.
Pikey Peak is widely regarded as one of the best viewpoints in Nepal for observing the Himalayan range. On clear days, you can see spectacular 8,000-meter-plus peaks, including: Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Manaslu, Langtang And several other snow-capped peaks.During the trek, you’ll pass through villages inhabited by various ethnic groups such as Sherpa, Tamang, Magar, Newar, Chhetri, Brahmin, and others. This offers a rich opportunity to experience their unique lifestyles, settlements, and cultures firsthand. The trail also takes you through dense forests filled with pine, rhododendron, and sunpati (a medicinal herb). Nature lovers will enjoy the region’s diverse flora and fauna, with chances to spot birds and wildlife such as:Crimson-horned pheasant (Danphe, Nepal’s national bird) Tigers, Wild bears and red pandas
In the highlands, you’ll encounter local livestock like Chauri Gai (crossbreed of yak and cow), yaks, naks (female yaks), and cows, which are a vital part of local livelihood.
